Republican Campaigns Used Socialism as a “Wedge Issue” in 2019; So Did Conservative Media
Media has long been a pillar of democracy. From unpacking the political developments of the day to embedded investigative reporting, we rely on journalists as a source of truth and check on power. Yet initial research indicates a parallel relationship between Republican politicians' use of socialism as a “wedge issue” messaging strategy and conservative media coverage, which may indicate an erosion the Fourth Estate’s historical separation from American political parties.
What is the nature of this relationship? To what degree is it significant? We dive into these questions for a project for DPI-691M.
